Mr Bruce Tutor Project 20805-146 09
February 13, 1997
Page 2
used to detect volatile organic compounds in the influent and effluent vapors The results
were used to assess the destruction and removal efficiencies and mass emission rates
Influent and effluent vapor samples were collected in SUMMA canisters After filling, the
canisters were forwarded to Performance Analytical Services, a state-certified laboratory,
for analysis and were accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody documentation
Both the laboratory results for the vapor samples and the chain-of-custody documentation
are presented in Appendix B
The following parameters were measured during the source tests
• Soil vapor and total flow rates
• Influent, combustion, and effluent temperatures
• Applied vacuum on the vapor extraction wells
• Concentration of influent and effluent vapors with an FID
The total flow into the catalytic oxidizer was corrected for pressure and temperature to
obtain the standard flow rates The field data sheets are presented in Appendix C
The attached table summarizes the analytical results, flow rates of both influent and effluent
soil vapors, destruction and removal efficiencies, and mass emission rates of TPHG and
benzene Example calculations of destruction and removal efficiencies and mass emission
rates are presented in Appendix D
The estimated mass emission rates on January 24, 1997, were 2 22 and less than 0 002
pounds per day (lb/day) for TPHG and benzene, respectively The destruction efficiency of
the remediation system was calculated to be greater than 99 percent for both TPHG and
benzene during the source test
The overall results of the source tests demonstrate compliance with the conditions in the
attached ATC (see Appendix A), therefore, EMCON requests that the San Joaquin Valley
Unified Air Pollution Control District issue a permit to operate the SVETS at this site
SACH\P10M0M8051460 9AB-95\11b 2
