December 8, 1997 .
Page 3
sections, 5) a search of onsite underground utilities and offsite water wells within 1/2 -
mile (if not previously conducted); and 6) preparation of a report summarizing the
above information. Groundwater is expected to be encountered between 19-1/2 and 26
feet bgs.
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR
1910.120), and by California Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(Cal -OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR
Title 8, Section 5192), PACIFIC has prepared a Site -Specific Health and Safety Plan
(Attachment B). The Site -Specific Health and Safety Plan will be reviewed by the field
staff and contractors before beginning field operations at the site.
The specific scope of work is discussed below:
• Records Review. PACIFIC will conduct a review of San Joaquin
County records concerning past activities and environmental
investigation at the subject site and sites in the surrounding area.
Chevron files will also be reviewed for the subject site. Aerial
photographs of the area to document past land usage will also be
reviewed.
Soil Boring Locations. Two soil borings will be driven onsite to
depths of approximately 90 feet bgs. These will be installed to
evaluate the vertical extent of gasoline hydrocarbons and MtBE in
the soil and groundwater. One soil boring will be installed near the
UST complex and the other will be installed east of the product
island between the northern product island and the kiosk. Locations
of the proposed borings are shown in Figure 2. Depth discrete soil
and groundwater samples will be collected from each borings.
Continuous core sampling will be performed in the boring nearest the
USTs. The second boring will be sampled at 5 -foot depth intervals
from the surface to the bottom of the boring. Groundwater "grab"
samples will be obtained from various depths within the two borings
utilizing the procedures outlined in Attachment A.
Soil and Groundwater Selection and Analysis. Selected soil samples
will be submitted for analysis at a California State -certified laboratory.
Soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for the presence of
TPH-g, BTEX compounds, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE), tertiary
butanol, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, 1,2 -DCA, and naphthalene.
Stratigraphic Information. Stratigraphic information will be collected
during the installation of borings at the site and will be logged by a
PACIFIC geologist. Two geologic cross sections will be prepared
(crossgradient and parallel to gradient).
920-124 IA/WKPLAN
