LINCOLN/CHARTER WAY
GROUNDWATER CONTAMINANT PLUME
PAGE 2
DISCUSSION OF GOALS
• The overall cleanup goal for this plume was discussed. It was generally accepted that the abatement
of the plume to background levels or maximum contaminant levels in a reasonable time period would
be difficult at best, very costly and likely technically unfeasible. For the current time, the attainable
goal of conducting source removal at each location was discussed. A final remedial plan for the
groundwater plume can be determined after the effects of source removal on the groundwater plume
has been evaluated.
• An attempt will be made by Ron Rowe to put all information onto one map for the entire plume. This
will allow the information generated by all the sites to be evaluated more effectively. In addition, the
information presented in this way will enable the group to determine which wells would yield the most
information as a whole and possibly allow for a reduction in number of sampling points in monitoring
the plume overtime.
• The analytical method for methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) and the monitoring frequency for
chlorinated hydrocarbons and other constituents of concern were discussed. It was decided that
MTBE would be detected by EPA method 8020 until such a time that a more precise method be
needed. The number and location of wells in the area needing sampling for chlorinated hydrocarbons
and other constituents of concern will be determined after additional data has been gathered and an
overall plume map is established.
• All efforts will be made to determine the requirements for potential commingling plume funding so that
access to these funds can be made as soon as feasible.
The meeting was a positive, cooperative approach to addressing the considerable groundwater
contaminant plume identified in the area. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 1996,
at 10:00 a.m. at the office of PHS-EHD.
If you disagree with this summary or have any questions, please contact Linda Turkatte, Senior REHS at
(209) 468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Linda A.
