_ - _: .
Former Beneto Facility Page 2 of 2
749 East Charter Way June 6, 2014
Stockton , California 95202
sixty-two feet bsg . When installed, the highest soil concentrations of benzene were detected in
VW-1 , VW-3, and VW4 at thirty-five feet bsg , and AS-2 at forty-five feet bsg . If these wells are
to be incorporated into the proposed SVE/AS system , the EHD recommends that first VW-1 ,
AS-2, VW-3 and VW-4 be monitored and sampled for contaminants of concern ; this will
determine whether the wells should be redeveloped , and provide needed information
concerning the effects on groundwater from operating an SVE system from 1997 through 2003
as well as performing a soil vapor extraction test in February 2007 using these wells .
The EHD believes remediation efforts should focus on permanently reducing benzene to -
concentrations below 1 , 000 pg/L in groundwater collected from MW-5 to comply with the LTCP
criteria. Any proposal should focus remediation on benzene-impacted soil in the source area to
reduce the flux rate to groundwater; proposed AS wells AS-3 , AS-4 and AS-5 are all outside the
area of significant benzene impact to soil and are therefore not likely to effectively reduce the
flux rate of benzene from soil to groundwater. Please submit a revised version of the FS-RAP
proposal that specifically targets the core of benzene concentrations centered around MW-5.
Submit the proposal to the EHD by 30 August 2014.
If you have any questions, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852 or by e-mail at
vmccartney@sjcehd.com .
Sincerely, gyp(
Victoria L.
