(Apex) on your behalf for the above-referenced
site . During a telephone conversation with Apex on 06 January 2012 , the EHD had
recommended submittal of either a corrective action plan (CAP) or a pilot test work plan for
dual phase extraction (DPE) to remediate residual impacted soil and impacted groundwater at
this site.
In the work plan , Apex proposes :
• Conducting a four-day (96-hour) DPE pilot test to extract soil vapor and groundwater
using a high vacuum liquid-ring thermal/catalytic oxidizer mounted on a trailer;
• Extracting soil vapor and groundwater from monitoring wells MW- 1 and MW-5 and
possibly from MW-4 if groundwater removal is not sustainable at wells MW-1 and
MW-5 ;
• Collecting background vacuum data from all wells prior to initiating DPE and daily
vacuum levels thereafter from all monitoring wells without using pressure transducers;
• Collecting background groundwater level data from all wells prior to monitoring
groundwater elevations using submersible pressure transducers inserted in monitoring
wells MW-7 , MW-8 , MW-9 and MW-16 ;
• Measuring static groundwater levels periodically in the remaining wells using a depth -
to-water meter,
• Collecting groundwater and soil vapor samples immediately after beginning DPE
operations and daily thereafter during the four-day pilot test,
