Gooloicaf?echnics Inc.
Mot Page 2
Project No.: 724.2
June 29, 1999
Proposed Direction of Project
The work approved by the County is summarized below:
1. Drill and install two water table monitoring wells to a depth of 45 feet bgs.
2. Analyze four soil samples from each borehole for the following:
j • Benzene,toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene(BTEX) by EPA method 8020/602.
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas) by't EPA method 5030/8015(m).
• Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(MTBE) by.EPA method 8020.
s • In addition, two soil samples will be analyzed for the following oxygenated fuel
compounds (MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME& TBA) by;EPA method 8260.
3. Develop the two new monitoring wells.
4. Place the two new wells on a quarterly monitoring schedule with the other three monitoring
wells for a period of one year. Include two monitoring e' ents for testing water samples for `
the oxygenated fuel compounds by 8260 and dissolved oxygen and oxidation-reduction
. . _potential. . -
5. Prepare a site.characterization report after well installation and initial monitoring.
6. Prepare three groundwater monitoring reports. Q
Listed below is a proposed schedule for implementing this project.
Proposed Bidding of Project
To remain in compliance with the USTCFP, Geological Technics Inc. requested a bid from
V&W Drilling to drill and install three groundwater monitoring wells, one deep soil boring and
five shallow soil borings. GTI has found V&W to be very cost effective for three primary
reasons:
+ reasonable charge rate
• fast drilling equipment
• well trained crew
These costs have been included in the attached opinion of kcost spreadsheet prepared giving
estimated costs for performing the work approved by SJC kPHS/EHD. The opinion of cost
spreadsheet shows itemized cost for the tasks proposed. In an';attempt to make this Pre-Approval
flow smoothly, GTI has used the same unit costs for this workljthat has previously been approved
by the USTCFP for other projects.
Geological Technics Inc. accepts field support services and lab invoices and adds a 15%
overhead fee. GTI then pays these charges.
r i
Tentative Schedule for Implementing Work
Task Descri tp ion Schedule
• Prepare USTCFP Cost Pre-Approval for work June 29, 1999
• Receive approval of costs from USTCFP July l5, 1999-
Drill, install & develop the 2 MWs Mid August 1999
• Perform a GW monitoring event Early Sept 1999
• Prepare a Site Characterization Report Late Sept 1999
