I
03 August 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0121
using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with pre-cleaned 1 . 125-inch by 64nch brass
sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the exposed ends of the second brass sleeve will be covered with
Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Soils encountered in the borings will be visually
classified by an AGE geologist in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
Additionally, soil samples will be field-screened for the presence of volatile organic compounds
using an organic vapor meter (OVM).
Following sample collection, each soil sample will be labeled with the boring location, depth, time,
date and sampler's initials. Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled
container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a microbiological
laboratory.
4.2. OXYGEN RELEASE COMPOUND PILOT TEST PROCEDURES
Nine soil probe borings will be advanced to depths of 40 feet bsg utilizing a Geoprobe 5400 soil
probing unit and spaced equidistant from well EW- 1 . Approximately 100 pounds of ORC will be
injected into each boring utilizing a Geoprobe grout pump. Following ORC injection, all remaining
soil boring void space will be backfilled with a portland cement.
Following ORC inoculation, a six month pilot test will be performed at the site to evaluate general
aerobic conditions at the site as well as the effectiveness of ORC when applied to a petroleum-
impacted zone in saturated soil . The ORC pilot test will consist of monitoring dissolved oxygen,
pH and specific conductivity from EW- 1 on a weekly basis using a YSI Model 55 Dissolved Oxygen
Meter; monthly ground water samples will be collected from EW- 1 and logged on a chain-of-
custody form, placed in a chilled container and transported to a California Department of Health
Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for analysis o£
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d,
respectively) by EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• Volatile aromatic compounds : benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX) with
methyl-tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) by EPA Method 8020, and
• Tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert butyl ether (ETBE), tert amyl
methyl ether (TAME) and MTBE by EPA Method 8260 Modified .
• Dissolved Oxygen by EPA Method 360. 1 .
Advanced GeoEnviromnental, Inc.
