During drilling, an experienced environmental geologist classified the soil,
logged the boreholes, and collected samples for qualitative field screening and potential
laboratory analysis.
Samples were collected approximately every 5 feet by advancing the boring to a point
immediately above the sampling depth and then driving a Modified California Sampler lined
with three brass tubes into the undisturbed soil. The sampler was then removed from the
bottom of the boring, and the bottom (third) tube was sealed with Teflon sheets and tight
fitting plastic caps. The sealed tube was immediately stored in an iced cooler . At the end of
.drilling operations, the samples were delivered under Chain-Of-Custody to the analytical
laboratory certified for the requested analysis. The u-maining samples were held under Chain-
Of-Custedy control in refrigerated storage for future reference or analysis.
To reduce the potential for cross-contamination, augers :nd associated equipment were steam
cleaned prior to drilling each borehole. 11te sampling equipment was cleaned with a trisodium
phosphate wash and rinsed with distilled water prior to collecting each soil sample. Drill
cuttings removed from the borings were contained in 55-gallon drums, labeled and left onsite.
MONITORING WELL CONSTRUCTION
Monitoring wells MW-I through MW-3 were constructed in soil borings B-10 through B-12,
respectively. The wells were constructed as follows:
o The wells were constru:ted through 8-inch hollow stem augers
o The well casing was 2-inch inside diameter, flush-threaded joint, schedule 40,
ASTIM F-480 PVC pipe. The PVC pipe was steam-cleaned prior to installation.
FIB-91-62
Copyright 1991 Kleinfetder, Inc. lir
