I
' f ,
19 July 2004 I
' AGE-NC Project No 95-0121
' Page 5 of9 ,
2 5 CPT SOIL AND GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION PROCEDURES
' F
`Grab' ground water samples and soil samples were collected from a duplicate soil boring advanced
' immediately adjacent the initial CPT soil bonng The samples were collected utilizing the 25-ton' `
truck-mounted CPT drill ng equipped with 1 75, inch diameter hollow-stem rods fitted with a
HydroPunch groundwater or piston soil sampling assembly, which was pushed to specified sampling
' depths in each soil boring, diagrams of the sampling assemblies are illustrated in Appendix B ;
I r
Ground water and soil samples were collected from specified depth intervals (zones) based on the
' acquired CPT-lithology data indicating favorable conditions for sampling For ground water, a
HydroPunch sampling tool was pushed into the specified zone, then withdrawn approximately two
to-three feet to expose an inlet screen, the interior of the sampling tool filled with ground water and
' a 112-inch outer diameter (O D ) stainless steel bailer was lowered and utilized to extract a ground
water sample For soil, a steel-tipped soil sampler was pushed into the specified zone, upon reaching
the desired depth, the steel tip was withdrawn, which exposed the hollow, core barrel sampler, the
' soil sampler was then pushed down again to retrieve a 1-foot soil sample
All rinseate generated by drilling related activities was containerized in properly labeled DOT-
approved 55-gallon drums, and was stored on-site in an area lacking public access All soil borings
were backfilled over their entire depth with either a portland cement grout mix or a portland
' cement/bentonite slurry
I
Following sample collection, each preserved sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed
' in a chilled container and transported to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratory, a California
= Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory and analyzed for
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) by EPA Method 8015M, '
• Vofatile aromatic compounds including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) ✓' '
with oxygenated compound methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butanol (TBA), di-,
' isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary amyl methyl ether - ' r
w u (TAME) by EPA Method 8260, and
' Volatile organic compounds including ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2; DCA) by EPA Method 8260
3 '
e ,
i
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc
h
I
a P
r
