MW-9 - This well is located on the JM Equipment property immediately to the west. As
discussed above, it was placed in an up-gradient position to evaluate the presence of gasoline
compounds found at the west edge of the Independent Trucking site. Details of that placement
are covered in the WJH report titled "Interim Report Covering Soil & Groundwater
Investigation and Second Quarter 1996 Monitoring event 1145 W. Charter Way, Stockton, CA"
dated October, 1996. As summarized on TABLE C, extremely high levels of BTEX & TPHg
were encountered during that work. We believe the source of the gasoline compounds detected
on the Miles property comes from this site. We do not know if the owners of that property
have retained an environmental firm to begin site investigation work, or which agency is
responsible for overseeing activities. We have removed this well from our monitoring schedule
since that task is the responsibility of the owners of that property.
DISCUSSION OF RESULTS OF WORK DONE TO DATE:
Prior reports have documented the extent of the groundwater plume which extends onto the
Independent Trucking site from east. This plume is a result of a major soil & groundwater
problem which is present in the southwest corner of the adjacent Nomellini Construction
property. The San Joaquin County EHD is the lead agency for that project. We have been
• provided copies of some of the reports prepared for the County, but have not made a recent file
review of the status of cleanup operations there. Based upon work done to date, that plume
extends to the maintainance shop, and possibly farther west. Some diesel compounds are
present in the groundwater beneath MW-4 as a result of minor contamination from diesel tanks
which have been removed. Prior reports give complete details of that work. As shown on
TABLE B, prior sampling events have detected gasoline compounds in water samples from that
well, although none were measured during this latest work. The UST's which have been
removed never contained gasoline; the evidence indicates rather strongly that those compounds
originated from the Nomellini site.
TABLE C shows the extremely high levels of gasoline compounds encountered in MW-9,
which is located about 35' west of the Miles property. That well was placed in an upgradient
position in an attempt to identify a possible source of the BTEX & TPHg detected in MW-8.
The only UST's on the property were 150'± east of the shop building, & they contained only
diesel fuel. There are no UST's between the shop building and the west property line. The data
collected to date strongly indicates that MW-9 is the source of that contamination. We have
sampled and analyzed samples from that well in September & November, 1996, and in March,
1997, but will no longer do so. The responsibility for continued testing lies with the owner of
that site.
CONCLUSIONS:
•
3
