1. A large groundwater plume extends from the southeast side of the property to at least as far
as the maintainance building. The source of that plume is on the Nomellini Construction site
immediately to the east at 1045 W. Charter Way.
2. A second plume (groundwater & possibly soil,) has migrated onto the southwest side of the
Miles property from the JM Equipment site at 1245 W. Charter Way.
3. Excluding MW-5 (Nomellini,) & MW-9 (JM equipment,) which are within impacted areas,
the levels of BTEX in the remaining wells are quite low as shown on PLATES II through
V. TPH as gasoline has been recorded in MW-1, MW-2, & MW-8; these wells have been
impacted by the offsite source at 1245 W. Charter Way. It has also been measured in MW-
4, which is impacted by the groundwater plume from the east as 1045 W. Charter Way,
4. Diesel range organics are present in the groundwater beneath MW-4, caused by leakage
from diesel UST's which have been removed. Refer to prior reports for details of that work.
That area is within the groundwater plume originating at 1045 W. Charter Way to the east,
and cleanup is not warranted at this time.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
• We have previously requested semi-annual sampling at this site, but never received a reply from
your office. That schedule was used in 1997, and will continue until further notice.
As a result of the work done to date, it is apparent that there are two separate offsite sources of
gasoline contamination which extend beneath 1145 W. Charter Way. Our client has removed the
diesel UST's on the site, excavated and disposed of several hundred yards of contaminated soil,
installed eight monitoring wells, performed an extensive area search for other sources of
contamination, and complied with all rules and regulations. The owners should not be required
to cleanup contamination caused by others.
We believe that a meeting should be arranged by your office with the owners of the three sites or
their representatives to determine responsibilities and coordinate activities for cleanup.
