' t
toilets in the shop.
Nov. 16 , 1992 Roto Rooter was called to the scene. They
looked for the clogging problem and discovered
a crack in the line leading from the toilets
to the Tank. Also, they discovered that the
first quadrant (two total) of the Tank was
full of septage and recommended pumping the
Tank, abandoning the Tank and installing a new
tank and leach lines .
Nov. 17 , 1992 Roto Rooter came to the site and pumped 1-,200
gallons out of the Tank. For whatever reason
they did not pump the second quadrant of the
Tank. Also, the bid they provided us for the
work discussed on Nov. 16, 1992 was too
costly. So we looked elsewhere for some to
conduct the work discussed by Roto Rooter.
Nov. 18, 1992 Perish and Sons came to the site, investigated
the problem and gave us a bid to conduct the
work. All looked well .
Nov. 19 , 1992 Perish and Sons brings backhoe to the site and
begins excavating the leach line and discovers
oil in and around the leach line. Perish
stops works . Is not licensed to work with
contaminated soil . Up until this point we
were not aware that the second quadrant of the
Tank existed. ,
Nov. 20 , 1992 Sacramento Waste Oil was called to the scene
to pump out the oil located in the second
quadrant (approximately 1000 gallons) , this
was taken off site as a California regulated
hazardous waste.
Nov. 23 , 1992 We took some incentive and wanted to know the
extent of contamination we are faced with. A
contractor was called to the scene (Aksland)
to exhume the leach line.
The line leads off the Tank to the west for
approximately 18 feet. And is located roughly
2 .5 feet below ground surface. The
perforations in the leach line do not begin
for approximately 3 feet after exiting the
Tank.
The area surrounding the line was backfilled
with drain gravel ( 3/411 ) . Approximately 5
feet from the Tank, following the leach line,
in the gravel, we discovered oil standing in
the trench. As we continued to excavate to
