1.2 Geology and Hydrogeology
At this point in time there is no detailed logging of the soil matrix or a source of measurement
to determine the depth to water on the site.
Characteristics of the aquifers and occurrences of groundwater at the site are anticipated to be
typical of the San Joaquin Valley groundwater basin and the influences of the nearby delta
estuary are to be considered. Water levels in nearby industrial and municipal wells may have
altered the regional flow pattern in the immediate area.
1.3 Previous Work
On November 23, 1992, Aksland was on-site to remove the leach field piping of the tank and
determine the extent of the contamination. The piping that was excavated and the contaminated
soil encountered was stockpiled into a 20 cubic yard Delta Container bin lined with 6 mil plastic.
Upon visual inspections, the area surrounding the leach field piping showed signs of
contamination out to the end of the piping run, approximately 18 feet to the west of the tank. The
burial of the piping was approximately 2.5 feet below the surface. At this time the excavation
was discontinued until a further investigation of the problem was completed.
No additional subsurface work has taken place at the site. Other environmental investigations are
currently underway within a one-mile radius of the facility.
Del-Tech Geotechnical Support has now been retained by Independent Trucking to complete a
Preliminary Inspection & Evaluation Report regarding the extent of the soils contamination and
to determine the depth to water at the site.
2
