2.2 Scope of Work
Del Tech will complete the shallow hand auguring in the excavated area and the angular boring
along the building. The deep borings would be completed by Osterburg & Stewart drilling
company of Modesto, they will use a truck mounted hollow stem auger drilling rig to complete
the borings.. The subsurface geologic investigation and logging of the soil borings will be
completed by Tim McDonald of Geological Technics Inc. of Modesto, under the direct
supervision of Ray Kablanow, registered geologist. All of the cuttings produced from this event
will be placed on a sheet plastic consisting of 6 mil polyurethane. Soil sampling intervals for
the deep borings will be collected in 5 foot intervals and screened with a photo ionization
detector for the presence of volatile aeromatics. These soil samples will also be logged for their
geological characteristics. Samples submitted to the laboratory will be analyzed for the presence
of TPH- GasolineB.T.X.E. (EPA Method 8015 Mod.), Total Recoverable Petroleum
Hydrocarbons TRPH (C5-C40), Halogenated Hydrocarbons (EPA Method 80 10) and Five Metals
(Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, Nickel and Zinc). Each of these samples will be selected from
appropriate horizons representing the vertical geologic strata and by held indications of
contamination. Four soil samples will be selected from the anticipated eight samples collect in
each deep boring and submitted to a state certified laboratory for analysis. The shallow soil
borings will also be logged in a five foot interval and the bottom sample will be submitted to the
laboratory for the same analysis as the deeper borings. All of the borings will be pressure grouted
with neat cement and finished off to grade with the use of a trimmie pipe. Each of the samples
will be extracted with a driven tube sampler utilizing 2 x 6 inch brass tubes. To ensure sample
integrity all drilling equipment and the drive sampler will be decontaminated with a steam cleaner
between each sample point. The brass tubes containing the soil samples will be sealed with teflon
tape, clean end caps, duct tape, labeled and placed in a chilled ice chest with a Chain-of-Custody
and transported to Sherwood Analytical Laboratory in Hilmar, California; DHS Certification
#1400. Each sample will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbon products (in the gasoline
range) by modified EPA Method 8015, minimum detection limit 1 mg/kg, Benzene, Toluene,
Ethyl Benzene, Total Xylene EPA Method 8020 minimum detection limit 3 ug/kg., Total
Recoverable Petroleum Hydrocarbons TRPH EPA Method 3540/8015 Mod. minimum detection
limit 5.0 mg/Kg,Halogenated Hydrocarbons EPA Method 8010 minimum detection limit 5 ug/Kg
4
