' Geolo$uuf?echnus Znc • Page 3
Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan
J M Equipment Co
' Project No 507 2
• January 17, 1997
' and other pollutants, and the readings above background on a organic vapor meter (OVM)
The OVM is a field portable photo ionization detector that uses a 10 0 eV lamp to detect
compounds with ionization potential below 10 0 eV (hydrocarbon range)
' 2.1.2 Soil Laboratory Analyses
' Based on field screening observations up to three soil samples from each borehole will be
submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar (State Certified Laboratory #1400) for
analysts for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020,
gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas) by EPA method 8015(m), Methyl
' Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) by EPA method 8020 with confirmation by 8260, and diesel
range petroleum hydrocarbons by Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TEPH-Diesel,
Kerosene and Motor Oil) by EPA method 3540/8015m The detection limits for these
' compounds are listed below A Chain of Custody will be completed for all samples collected
and tracked to ensure sample integrity
' Detection imitsB'I EX - aso ine
Soil µ g ,
In addition to these chemical tests selected samples will also be tested for geophysical
parameters, (including but not lunited to moisture, grain size distribution, density,
permeability and organic content), by ASTM methods D5084, D2434, D422 and D2974
2.1.3 Monitoring Well Construction
The monitoring well will be constructed using 2 0 inch diameter PVC casing with flush
threads The screened interval will extend from five feet above the water table to ten feet
below the water table Ground water is expected to be located approximately 20 feet below
grade If a significant clay unit is encountered during the drilling of the well, the well may be
seated no greater than 3 ft into that fine grained unit A #3 sand filter pack will surround and
extend two feet above the 0 020" screened interval A granular bentonite transition seal will
be installed and hydrated A surface seal will be achieved by pumping a neat cement grout
(augmented with < 4% bentonite) via a tremie tube The well will be secured with a locking
watertight cap encased in flush mounted traffic rated well box
After the well sealing materials have set (>24 hours) the well will be developed (using
mechanical surging and pumping methods) until a clear stream of water is obtained The
I well will be purged and ground water samples collected no sooner than 48 hours after well
development All development and purge water will be containerized in 55 gallon DOT
approved containers and stored on site until their disposition can be arranged -- -
' The top of casing measuring point for the well will be surveyed into an arbitrary plane by a
licensed land surveyor
' 2.2 Ground water Sampling Procedure
The ground water in the new well will be sampled no sooner than 48 hours after well
I development and from there after on a quarterly basis The following is a procedure for the
sampling of ground water from the well
