CAMBRIA
Cambria proposes five groundwater monitoring wells be installed at the locations shown
on Figure 2. Assuming a groundwater flow direction to the southeast, these wells are
placed to monitoring groundwater in t e presumed source area and upgradient,
downgradient, and crossgradient of the presumed source area.
Work Tasks
Permits: An application for a drilling permit will b submitted to the SJCPHS/EHD.
I
Site Safety Plan: A Site Safety Plan will be prepared for field work.
Utility Clearance: Proposed drilling locations will be marked and their locations cleared through
Underground Service Alert prior to drilling.
Site Investigation: Five groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-5) are proposed as
shown on Figure 2. The borings will be drilled with hollow-stem auger drilling equipment. A
Cambria geologist will supervise the drilling of the borings and describe encountered soils using
the Unified Soil Classification System and Munsell Soil Color Charts. Soil samples will be
collected from the borings at five-foot intervals for soil description and organic vapor screening
with a photo-ionization detector(PID).
Soil samples will be retained in stainless steel or brass sample tubes and will be covered on both
ends with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps. Soil samples will be labeled, entered onto a chain-
of-custody record and placed into a cooler with ice for transport to a State of California certified
laboratory for analyses.
Monitoring Well Construction: Each well boring will be drilled to approximately ten feet below
first encountered groundwater. The wells will be competed using two-inch diameter Schedule 40
PVC casing. The well screen interval will be appf oximately five feet above and ten feet below
first encountered groundwater. The sandpack will be placed alonga entire length of the well
screen and two feet above the top of the well scree followed by a two-foot thick bentonite seal
and cement grout to grade. Actual well construct on details will be based on field conditions
during drilling. The well will be secured with a locking cap under a traffic-rated well box. A
licensed surveyor will survey the wellhead elevations relative to mean sea level and the location
of each well as per State of California guidelines.
i
1511 3
