r <br /> SAFEWAY MEAT PACKING FACILITY, STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA <br /> TIER II RISK BASED CORRECTIVE ACTION <br /> FEBRUARY 26, 1996 <br /> PAGE 3 - 3 <br /> SSTLs for two cases have been calculated the average case and the reasonable maximum <br /> exposure (RME) case The average case is based on mean or typical values for site physical <br /> conditions and it includes a combination of typical and default exposure parameters to describe <br /> the potential receptors The RME is defined by USEPA (1989a) as, " . the highest exposure that <br /> is reasonably expected to occur" It is developed by selecting values at the high end of <br /> distributions for individual parameters (e g , the volume of air inhaled per hour) and using default <br /> values Copeland, et al (1983) have shown that the RME case can greatly overestimate exposures <br /> and risks because the additive and multiplicative effects of combining a series of high end <br /> estimates for individual parameters <br /> 0131CDJI <br />
