Protect No 014-95262 <br /> Page No 5 <br /> diesel fuel supply pipeline, and in areas used previously to stockpile and dispose of spoils from the <br /> underground tank excavation Please refer to Figure 4 for locations of all sampling activities <br /> l Prior to the commencement of the investigation at the project site, all necessary permits were <br /> obtained from the San Joaquin Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) For detailed methodologies <br /> 1 used during the course of this investigation and permit copies, please refer to Appendix D <br /> i <br /> 7.0 FINDINGS OF THE INVESTIGATION <br /> 7.1 Hand Auger Borings <br /> Three areas were outlined for further shallow soil investigation during Krazan's Phase I site <br /> inspection of the Safeway facility Those areas were 1) the inactive boiler fuel (diesel) supply lines, 2) <br /> the areas used to stockpile and eventually dispose of spoils from the UST excavation, and 3) a below grade <br /> vault located near the brine tank The analytical results for samples collected from these areas are <br /> f presented in Table 1 (following text) <br /> 7.1.1 Excavation Stockpiles <br /> Three areas were investigated due to their use for either stockpiling or disposal of the spoils <br /> generated during overexcavation of the former diesel tanks Sample locations from these areas are <br /> designated KHA-7 through KHA-12 on Figure 4 Samples KHA-7 and KHA-8 investigated the potential <br /> for leaching of petroleum constituents into native soil because these areas were used to stockpile petroleum <br /> affected spoils The presence of total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-D), total petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) was not detected in <br /> these two samples, collected at a depth of 6-12 inches below ground surface (bgs) <br /> Four samples (KHA-9 through KHA-12) were collected from dust above the native soil/spoils <br /> interface (1 5 to 2 0 bgs) to determine if adequate remediation of excavation spoils had occurred prior to <br /> their placement on the undeveloped portion of the Safeway lot, north of the main building (see Figure 4) <br /> No BTEX was detected in these samples One sample contained 2 6 mg/kg TPH-G and three samples <br /> contained TPH-D at low concentrations— 1 3 mg/kg, 1 1 mg/kg, and 32 mg/kg for samples KHA-9, KHA- <br /> 10, and KHA-11, respectively <br /> 7.1.2 Former Diesel Supply Lines <br /> Prior to the establishment of a dependable supply of natural gas to fire the main facility boiler, <br /> I� diesel was used as a fuel Two product lines, a supply and a return line, connected the boiler room and the <br /> KRAZAN & ASSOCIATES, INC <br /> L faces Serving the Western United States <br /> 95262 FS2 <br />
