Protect No 014-95262
Page No 11
detected at a concentration of 300µg/L, benzene and toluene were detected dust above detection limits, at
concentration of 0 8 Mcg/L each
With respect to EC and chloride, analytical results for samples KHP-7 and KHP-8 located southeast
of the main facility building are similar to background Sample KHP-1, at the brine spill area, exhibited
an EC approximately double that of background and chloride 3 to 4 tunes that of background Samples
KHP-3, KHP-4, and KHP-5, from the vicinity of the wastewater treatment pond, exhibited EC
concentrations 3 to 4 times background and chloride 3 to 6 tines background Sample KHP-9 exhibited
g P
an elevated EC value yet non detected chloride
Nitrate was detected at low concentrations in samples from KHP-1 and KHP-2 on the western
portion of the property, and at KHP-7, southeast of the main building Nitrate was not detected in samples
from the vicinity of the treatment pond or in samples from KHP-8 or KHP-9 Ammonia, conversely, was
detected at low concentrations at locations KHP-4 and KHP-5 east, and recently hydraulically down-
gradient, of the treatment plant and pond Ammonia was not detected elsewhere on site
Phosphate concentrations were low and not attributable to known potential point sources Sulfate
e
concentrations were an order of magnitude higher in samples from the west and northwest portion of the
site (KHP-1 and KHP-2) than at other locations analyzed The highest sulfate concentration noted (110
mg/1) is one-half the secondary MCL value of 250 mg/L The reason for variable sulfate concentrations
is not known
pH ranged from 7 6 to 8 5 with no apparent relationship to potential source areas TRPH was not
detected in any sample analyzed for this constituent
VOCs, which include chlorinated compounds such as trichloroethylene (TCE) and
tetrachloroethylene (PCE) in addition to the BTEX compounds, were analyzed at all locations except KHP-
4 Six of eight locations exhibited very low concentrations of one to two specific compounds with all other
compounds being non detected The specific compounds detected were benzene, toluene, bromoform and
1,2,4-trunethylbenzene, all of which were detected at very near their detection limits The MCLs for the
above constituents were not exceeded
TPH-D was analyzed in six of nine groundwater samples TPH-D was detected in the northern
' portion of the property (KHP-2 and KHP-3) and at the southeast edge (KHP-8) at moderate concentrations
(300 to 420µg/L) The remaining locations KHP-6, KHP-7, and KHP-9, located both northeast and west
of the former Safeway USTs, returned TPH-D concentrations 3 to 4 times greater, in the range of 1100
to 1200 ,ug/L
One sample (KHP-9) was also analyzed for semi-volatile organic constituents Constituents which
can be detected by this method include polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), certain organochlorine
KRAZAN &ASSOCIATFS, INC.
Offices Serving the Western Unrted Stales
95262 M
