Project No 014-95262
Page No 12
16 pesticides and PCBs This analysis was prompted by the classification by the analytical laboratory of an
atypical pattern on the chromatograms for some of the TPH-D samples The results of the analysis for
semi-volatile organic constituents was the detection of only one compound [bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate] at
a concentration of 150 µg/L
k
8.0 DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
I Review of soil and groundwater chemical data and its relation to potential on-site sources of soil
and/or groundwater degradation allow certain observations to be made These observations are discussed
below and are listed by the specific area investigated
t
8.1
TPH-D was detected at concentrations of 3 6 to 1 0 mg/kg at the two northern sample locations
i (KHA-4 and KHA-5) Although the vertical extent of TPH-D in soil has not been determined, based upon
soil types present, it is probably limited vertically Other considerations are that the potential source of
release (diesel lines) are no longer used and the vicinity is capped by the building or extensive driveway
' areas The concentrations noted in these two borings suggests the lateral extent of diesel affected soil is
limited However, additional and deeper soil boring(s) and chemical sampling are the only absolute
methods to prove the presence of TPH-D is laterally and vertically limited
8.2 Eggavaon Spoils
A maximum concentration of 32 mg/kg TPH-D was noted in samples in areas used to stockpile or
eventually dispose of spoils generated during UST overexcavation Other sample concentrations were <2
mg/kg to non detect Based upon these results it appears that leaching of TPH-D below stockpile areas did
not occur and that TPH-D remaining in remediated spoils does not pose a threat to health and safety or to
soil or groundwater resources
8.3 Vault at Brine Tank
1
One sample was collected from 6 to 12 inches below the earthen floor of the vault (KH-6)
Chloride was present at a concentration of 12,000 mg/kg It is possible that the vault contains a concrete
floor below the maximum depth investigated -- this must be determined at a later date If present, a floor
KRAZAN& ASSOCIATES, INC
Offices Semng the Western Unwed States
95262 Ps2
