Kelly Williamson
Kayo Oil Company
1121 East Main Street
Chattanooga, Tennessee 37408
Dear Mr. Williamson:
SUBJECT: ASSESSMENT OF THE CONTAMINANT PLUM
Fast Gas Self-Service Station
800 East Highway 12
Lodi, California
Store NO. 05660
IT Project No. ME0004
This report reformats the data presented i the March 14 and April 8,
1984 reports. The extent of contaminatiom is presented on five foot
level maps and a crude worse case estimate of the amount of hydrocarbon
in the soils is made. Remedial alternatives that could be applied to
the site are presented with cost estimates and a recommended course of
action is outlined.
Figures 1 through 4 show the percent iowe explosive limit values for
the soils samples at 5-foot intervals fro the surface to a depth of
45 feet, Figure 3 shows the shallowest co tamination to be at a depth
of 15 feet adjacent to the tanks, indica ing that the source of the
hydrocarbons is probably the tanks, or spillage when the tanks were
filled. No other contamination is indicated until the 35-foot level,
where the plume is found in three borings, MW-7, MW-6, and MW-9. The
low reading in MW-9 suggests that this is the edge of the plume, and the
lack of contamination in MW-9 at 40 feet c nfirms this. Contamination
is found in MW-1, MW-7, and MW-6 at the 40-foot level.
The water table at the station was at a level of 36 feet below ground
surface on April 15, 1985. Tables 1 and show the two sets of water
level measurements that have been made at the site. , Monitor well MW-1
had 0.2 feet of product floating on the surface of the water on
April 15.
The pattern of contamination indicates that the source of the hydrocar-
bons is in the area of the tanks and that the hydrocarbons moved essen-
tially straight down until encountering the water table. where the
plumes began to spread laterally. Since there is contamination at both
the 35- and 40-foot level, it appears thal. the water table fluctuates
over this interval.
Regional Office
IT Corporation• 1815 Arnold Drive•Martinez, California 94553.415-228-8400
