Cherokee Lane
Lodi , CA 95240
Dear Mr. Hansen:
We have just received the chemical analyses of water from the
wells installed in the most recent phase of contamination assessment
at 800 E Hwy. 12, Lodi , CA. A copy of the analysis results is
attached. Three of the exter:fior wells (MW 22, MW-23, and MW-30)
showed detectable benzene in `solution. Additional work will be needed
to finish the contamination assessment.
I recommend that two more wells be drilled at this time, and that
we plan another phase of drilling beyond that as a contingency. If we
obtain regulatory approval for both planne phases at this time, then
we can avoid delay if the second phase is necessary.
I,
Well MW-22 had only 10 ppb benzene anc only 80 ppb TVH in its
water. I recommend that we should simply ontinue to monitor it, and
not step out in that direction for another well . Other wells at Lodi
with similar initial contaminant concentrations (MW-11, MW-12) have
cleaned up over time to ND benzene.
I recommend that we step!Jout and drill wells beyond MW-23 and
MW-30. MW-23 water contained 89 ppb benzene, and MW-30 water
contained 800 ppb benzene. The proposed w ll locations are shown on Y.
the attached map as MW-32P and MW-33P. Each well would be 50-55'
deep, and installed with a 15 screen at the appropriate depth to
allow observation and sampling of the watey table aquifer. Soil
samples will be collected foranalysis at ppropriate depths during
drilling. Water samples will'lbe collected for analysis after the
wells are developed. The installation of ill wells will be supervised
by a California registered geologist. The same protocols and
techniques would be followed `as in our initial characterization
proposal . We propose to continue using thf same subcontractors.
Ifroundwater contamination is found to extend beyond the tw
9 Y o
wells proposed above or if benzene levels in MW-22 increase
€ significantly, I would like to have a contingency plan in place for
aUPON
;k
