5H. SPILL, OIL AND/OR PCBs <br />This response procedure is to be followed (1) in the event of an oil spill at <br />this facility, and (2) if a facility does not have a Spill Control and <br />Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan on file. oil spills include spills involving PCBs, <br />gasoline, diesel and fuel oil, lubricating and insulating oils, condensate, <br />Pipeline liquids, turbine oil, and solvents. <br />1. Upon discovery of a spill, try to keep the situation from worsening by: <br />a. Immediately stopping the source of the discharge. This may involve. <br />1) Shutting off equipment or pumps; <br />2) Plugging a hole in operating equipment or a tank; <br />3) Closing a valve; <br />4) Righting an overturned container or piece of operating equipment. <br />2. If an SPCC plan for this facility is available, follow the response <br />procedures outlined in its Contingency Plan portion. <br />3. Take care of any injured. Cal l an ambulance or paramedics. <br />4. Begin to fill out Scene -Management Checklist (Section 8). <br />5. Callyour Facility Emergency Coordinator or Alternate; provide with <br />information gathered in Scene -Management Checklist (Section 8). <br />6. Call the shift supervisor. <br />7. Isolate spill from human and vehicular contact. Suggested methods: <br />a. Cones <br />b. Stanchions and tape <br />c. Post a sign <br />8. STOP AND EVALUATE HAZARDS. <br />a. Attempt to identify hazardous substance(s) spilled. <br />b. Identify the source and estimated quantity of materials spilled. <br />Refer to Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), if available. <br />c. Evaluate: Toxic hazards (i.e., vapors) <br />Explosive hazards <br />Environmental hazards <br />Other hazards <br />PM] <br />
