21 June 1996
AGE-NC Project No 95-0114
If remediation of the hydrocarbon-impacted soil is required, feasibility studies will have to be
Performed to determine the most cost-effective remedial option. We recommend the installation of
three soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells at the site and performance of an SVE pilot test.
Additionally, soil samples collected during the installation of the SVE wells should be used for
microbiological analysis to determine bioremediation feasibility. Upon completion of the feasibility
studies, a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) should be prepared.
5.2. PETROLEUM HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED GROUND WATER
Based upon the analytical results of ground water samples, the horizontal extent of hydrocarbon-
impacted ground water has been defined north and east of the site. However, hydrocarbon-impacted
ground water ma extend south of the ro ert . One additional ground water monitoring well may
need to be installed south of the former UST excavation. Monitoring well construction parameters
for existing wells are included in Table 3 -Monitoring Well Construction.
If remediation of hydrocarbon-impacted ground water is required, feasibility studies will have to be
conducted to determine acceptable remedial options for the site. We recommend the installation of
at least one in-situ air sparging(IAS)well and performance of an IAS pilot test. The IAS well should
be installed at the same time as the SVE wells. Ground water samples should also undergo
microbiological analysis to determine bioremediation feasibility at the site. Results of the pilot
studies should be included in a CAP,
6.0. LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities. The findings were based mainly
on analytical results provided by an independent laboratory. Evaluations of hydrogeologic conditions
at the site for the purpose of this investigation are made from a limited number of data points (i.e.
soil samples or monitoring wells), and subsurface conditions may vary away from these points. No
other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the professional recommendations contained in
this report.
