Treadvvell8AWb <br /> 3 Sampling results and laboratory analytical methods used during our subsurface <br /> investigations <br /> 2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION <br /> ' The Site is part of the Banner Island Redevelopment Project,which includes the area north of the <br /> ' Stockton Channel bounded by North Lincoln Street to the west, West Fremont Street to the <br /> north, and Commerce Street to the east <br /> 1 Until March 2004,the Site was covered by several buildings with a walk-through interior <br /> ' During March 2004, the buildings were demolished in preparation for redevelopment Prior to <br /> the City's purchase of the property, the Site was operated by the Carando Machine Works as a <br /> machine shop Buildings in the southern half of the Site were constructed between 1920 and <br /> 1950 Aerial photographs and Sanborn maps show a gas station pump and service station in the <br /> northwest area of the Site from at least 1950 until the late 1960s The approximate locations of <br /> the former service station,USTs, and pump islands are shown on Figure 2 From the late 1960s <br /> ' on, the entire Site has been occupied by buildings operated by Carando Machine Works <br /> ' 3.0 SOIL AND GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS <br /> ' Although no monitoring wells are present at the Site, groundwater monitoring at adjacent and <br /> nearby sites indicates a northeasterly groundwater flow direction at the Site Groundwater is <br /> ' generally encountered in wells near the Site at approximately 17 to 19 feet below ground surface <br /> (bgs) The Site is underlain by silts and clays with some shallow silty sand layers During a <br /> ' June 2003 investigation, Advanced GeoEnvironmental(AGE) advanced eight borings(B-1 <br /> through B-8) and obtained groundwater grab samples from Borings B-1 through B-4, and B-6 <br /> ' through B-8 (AGE, 2003a) On behalf of the City,the water samples were analyzed for total <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) and for VOCs None of these <br /> ' compounds were detected in any of the water samples except from the sample collected from <br /> Bonng B-3, located in the sidewalk adjacent to the Site along West Fremont Street The <br /> groundwater sample from Bonng B-3 contained petroleum hydrocarbons quantified in the range <br /> ' 25971020 DGD 2 23 August 2004 <br /> i <br />
