II
5.2.3.1 Soil Confirmation Sample Collection and.Results for the B6 UST Excavation
Treadwell & Rollo collected 111 soil confirmation samples from the floor and sidewalls of the
Area 15 UST excavation (Figure 12). Sidewall soil confirmation saniple"s were collected at
3`vertical feet ranging between 3 to 15 feet bgs.
approximately every 25 linear feet and every.
Soil samples collected from the bottom of the excavation ranged in depths between 2.5 and
17 feet bgs. The confirmation samples were-collected using the same procedures as at the other
RAP excavations (described in Section 5.1).
The initial soil confirmation samples from RAP excavations.15B6 and 15B9 were analyzed for
the TPHd and TPI-Imo as proposed in the RDIP. The SJCEHD required that the following
additional analyses be added because the UST.fuel type was unknown:
+ TPHg (carbon range C7—CIA using EPA Testing Method 8015 modified;
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) using EPA Testing Method
8021B;
• Methyl tert butyl ether(MTBE) plus oxygenates.(tert-butyl alcohol, di-isopropyl ether,
ethyl-tert butyl ether, and tent-amylmethyl ether, and ethanol) and lead scavengers
{1;2-dichloroethane [1,2-DCA] and 1,2=dibromoethane[1,2-EDB]) using EPA Testing
't
Method 8260B; and
• Total lead using EPA Testing Method 6010.
f
The concentrations of TPHg, TPHd, and TPHmo in confirmation samples ranged from below
F laboratory reporting limits to 3,800, 6,300 and 660 milligrams per kilograms (mg/kg)
respectively. No concentrations for benzene, MTBE or oxygenates were reported above
If laboratory reporting limits in any samples. Total concentrations lead ranged from 5.1 to
i
13 mg/kg. The analytical results are presented in Table 5. The laboratory report is included as
Appendix B.
i
2597102 5.DGD 15 11 August 2005
