TrOadwelEPUb
detectable TPH concentrations. In approximately half of the pairs, the BPDs for TPHd and
TPHmo were within 50 percent of each.other. Eight duplicate pairs were collected for PAH
analyses. The majority of PAHs,were below laboratory reporting limits, but for pairs with
detections,..over half had RPDs within 50 percent of each other.. Eight sets of duplicate pairs
were collected for arsenic analyses, and all samples had BPDs within 50 percent of each other.
The imprecision in the results in the field duplicate pairs for TPH.and PAHs is not unexpected,
and may be due to non-homogeneity of Site soils and differences in sample matrix as the sample
pairs are co-located with the duplicate sample comprised of a six inch soil interval adjacent to
the primary sample. As arsenic is naturally occurring in Site soils, the close correlation of
arsenic concentrations in duplicate pairs {ranging from 3.4 to 6.3 mg/kg}is attributed to
background arsenic concentrations. .
` Laboratory Qualifiers
The qualifiers used by the analyticallaboratory for this project included the following.
{ C - Presence confirmed,but RPD between columns exceed 40%.
H - Heavier hydrocarbons contributed to the quantitation.
t
L- Lighter hydrocarbons contributed to the quantitation.
Y- Sample exhibits chromatographic pattern which does not resemble standard.
Z- Sample exhibits unknown single peak or peaks.
The qualifiers and qualified data are indicted in:Tables 3 through 8.
i
F All TPHg detections were qualified with an H and Y. All TPHd detections were qualified with
{
an H and most were also qualified with a Y. Many TPHmo detections were qualified with.an L
and a Y. One sample, 1OB23SSW2 was qualified with a Z. These qualifiers are-comments on
the type of compounds being detected, are generally consistent with previous findings, and do
not have an impact on data quality or reliability. Thirteen.samples had C qualifiers for
r
9 11 gu
1 Au st 2005
25971025.DGD
