The scale on the revised
Figure 2 is ]-inch= 10 feet. The 1-inch=20-feet scale on yesterdays figure was incorrect. m pip VA OVOTI-
i"
The volume of soil excavated as of the end of day on Wednesday, was approximately 3,600 cubic yards. We y,
anticipate that up to an additional 500 cubic yards will need to be excavated to remove the remaining soil with
significant concentrations of gasoline and diesel. Today we shall be conducting excavation at sampling locations
NSW-15, ESW-15 and ESW2-10. In these samples,total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH)quantified as gasoline
ranges from 300 to 3,800 mg/kg and TPH as diesel range from 710 to 1,300 mg/kg(see Table 2 in the workplan).
We are still awaiting confirmation sampling results in the southern portion of the excavation.
Attached figure 2 shows the dimensions of the excavation. The final dimensions and volumes of the excavation
will be dependent upon the analytical results of the remediation confirmation samples. I hope this answers your
questions at this time.
Sincerely,
David G. However, the workplan did not specify how much
additional soil you are proposing to excavate. EHD requires specific dimensions (length x width x depth) of the
proposed excavation and the volume of soil to be excavated "beyond"what has been removed under the DTSC
plan to date.
Please be aware that the City of Stockton has the option to continue to excavate under the original DTSC
approved workplan which the excavation is guided by the proposed Remedial Action Numbers (RAO), but the
cost of that work is not eligible for reimbursement from the State UST Clean Up Fund (the Fund)since EHD slid
not review or approve it. If you wish to seek reimbursement from the Fund for the cost of additional excavation
beyond what has been done to date, EHD recommends that more specific information be provided to EHD as
soon as possible. Honestly today would not be too soon.
5/5/2004
