i
Subsurface Environmental Investigation september 21, 1988
Abandoned Lerner Service Station, Lodi, California AGS 38055--1
The annular space of the well was packed with sorted sand to
approximately 3 feet above the top of the screen. A bentonite
seal approximately 3 feet was placed above the sand to prevent
cement from entering the sand pack. The remaining annulus was
backfilled with a mixture of cement and bentonite to the ground
.urface. The construction details of the well are
graphically
depicted on Plates P-9 through P-11. ' The well head was secured
in a cast-aluminum utility box with a PVC .apron. The box was set
in concrete flush with the surrounding grade and has a watertight
seal. A spo'cially designed wrench is required to open the box;
this design discourages vandalism and reduces the possibility of
accidental disturbance of the well. A. locking cap has been
placed on the PVC casing.
' Ground-Water Sampling
On August 22, 1988, a geologist from Applied Geosystems visited
the site to :measure the depth to water in the monitoring well,
subjectively analyze the ground water in the well, and develop
t
the monitoring well. The depth to water was measured to the
nearest 0.01-foot with an electric water-level indicator. The
water level at the time 'of Meas,urement__was .40-25--feet below the-----____ground surface. A ground--water sample was collected from the
air-fluid interface in the monitoring well for subjective
9
4pc/led eoSstems — J
