Site Closure Report 2
Former Claude C.Wood Construction Yard,681 East Lockeford Street,Lodi,CA November 16, 1999
2.0 BACKGROUND
2.1 Site Setting
The Site is located at 681 East Lockeford Street, in the City of Lodi, San Joaquin County,
California approximately 500 feet east of Highway 99 (Figure 2). The Site is the location of a
former Claude C. Construction Company Yard that lies on the northeast corner of the Lockeford
and Beckman Road intersection(Figure 2). Claude C. Wood Company used the yard as an
equipment fleeting and maintenance facility until 1992. As part of the operation three USTs and
an above ground storage tank(AST) farm were used to store and dispense diesel fuel. In 1993
contractors performed primary demolition of buildings and other structures including the
removal of the above ground storage tank(AST) farm located immediately west of the structure
labeled 'Repair Shop" (Figure 2). The location of the former USTs and AST farm are shown on
Figure 2. The Site is currently vacant with only four building foundations and a concrete loading
dock remaining.
2.2 Geology and Hydrogeology
The property is located approximately 2,500 feet south of the Mokelumne River at an elevation
of 54 feet above sea level (Figure 1). Based on observations made during waste oil UST removal
and soil excavation activities, the native soil from grade to 15 feet below grade surface (bgs)
consisted of silty sand and sandy silts that were underlain by silty clays and clayey silts from 15
feet to a depth of 22 feet bgs.
Groundwater monitoring data from an adjacent site has a seasonal high groundwater level of
approximately 35 feet bgs.
2.3 UST Removals and Soil Excavations
As part of the construction yard operation, a total of three USTs were once used at the subject
site. The location of the former USTs are shown on Figure 2 and are described below:
Volume Type Storage Status
12,000 gallon Steel UST Gasoline Removed January 1990
No further action following removal
AJ-ClosureRpt.RPT.wpd
