Hazard Analysis <br /> Primary Hazards: <br /> Gasoline vapors which are flammable and which contain; Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, <br /> and Xylenes. <br /> Hazardous Characteristics: <br /> Flammable, volatile, ignitable, long-term human toxicity effects, irritant to skin, severe <br /> irritant to eyes, can bum nasal passages, can cause loss of consciousness with prolonged <br /> exposure. <br /> Explosive if confined and ignited. Vapors may travel a long distance. <br /> Can ignite via sparks and/or open flame. <br /> Environmental hazard if released into soil or water. <br /> Primary <br /> Benzene- Synonyms: Benzol, Cyclohexatriene, Coaltar Naptha, Phenyl Hydride <br /> Flashpoint: 580c <br /> Toluene - Synonyms: Toluol, Methylbenzene, Phenylmethane, Methacide. <br /> Flashpoint: 536c <br /> Xylene - Believed to be carcinogenic. <br /> Gasoline- General Summary of Hazards <br /> Primary <br /> Ignition temperature is approximately 250c, vapor density 3-4, explosive range about 1.3 - <br /> 6.0. Fumes may travel a great distance to ignition source. <br /> Great potential of explosion if confined and ignited. <br /> Toxicity - Symptoms: Conjunctivitis; irritation of eyes, nose, throat, defatting demrititis, <br /> headache, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, cough, dyspnea, bronchitis, pneumonia, <br /> nausea, vomiting; nervousness and irritability; blurred vision, ataxia, coma, convulsion. <br /> Blistering of skin, temporary blindness if exposed directly to eyes. <br /> Secondary <br /> Gasoline can ignite from sparks to liquid or gas vapors. Injury can be caused from <br /> operation of heavy machinery, backhoe, truck, etc. Excavation can be a pitfall to foot <br /> traffic. Removed tank can be a falling hazard. Gasoline within tank can be a hazard. Dry <br /> ice used to inert the tank can be a hazard to unprotected skin. <br /> 4 <br />
