' GEOMATRIX
contained trace concentrations (less than 1.4 ltg/E) of the VOCs chloroform, chlorobenzene, and
' 1,2-DCP. The inorganic constituent nitrate was also detected at trace concentrations ranging between
ND and 0.29 mg/t. Chloride and TDS were not measured due to the limited volume of these discrete-
depth groundwater samples.
' 3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
This work plan proposes additional assessment of the shallow, intermediate, and deeper groundwater
zones at locations upgradient and downgradient of the Facility and installation of monitoring wells at
' selected locations in the shallow, intermediate, and deeper zones.
The primary objectives of this additional groundwater investigation are to further characterize the
vertical and lateral extent of groundwater containing chemicals beneath and downgradient from the
Facility,to further establish background groundwater conditions for the Facility, and to further evaluate
the hydrogeologic conditions beneath the Facility and its vicinity. To accomplish these objectives, the
following tasks will be completed: (1)obtain property access and drilling permits; (2)drill, sample, and
geophysically log exploration soil borings at seven locations to further evaluate hydrogeologic
' conditions; (3)collect discrete-depth groundwater samples from five borings to further characterize
chemicals in groundwater; (4) install shallow-, intermediate-, and deeper-zone monitoring wells (as
' necessary) in a cluster at an upgradient location to further evaluate background groundwater quality;
(5) install shallow-, intermediate-, and deeper-zone monitoring wells in a cluster at two downgradient
' locations to monitor groundwater quality downgradient of the Facility; and (6) install shallow- and
intermediate-zone monitoring wells in a cluster at a location cross-gradient and south of the Facility, to
further characterize the lateral extent of chemicals in shallow and intermediate zone groundwater.
' The procedures to be followed during field activities are described below. All activities will be
' conducted under the supervision of a Geomatrix geologist registered in the State of California. All
Geomatrix personnel will follow the health and safety procedures described in the existing health and
safety plan. The specific protocols for the field activities described below are presented in Appendix B.
3.1 Access and Permitting
' Property access agreements for drilling and monitoring well installation will be negotiated with the
property owners upgradient (Volpi Ranch and Stockton Ford New Holland, Inc.) and immediately
' downgradient (San Joaquin Valley Associates) of the Facility. When these access agreements have
been secured, subsurface assessment (drilling) permits will be requested from the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services — Environmental Health Division (SJC-EHD). Field activities will not start
' until the appropriate permits have been obtained.
1
iraaernaevoacuagKnuo-n.mc 9
