05 October 2004
AGE-NC Project No.04-1215
Page 3 of 5
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Soil and grab ground water sample collection and analysis;
• Report preparation
The preliminary site assessment tasks are discussed below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK TASKS
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization,the area of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL AND GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
AGE proposes to advance six probe borings using direct push technology in the areas of the former
diesel UST, former service station USTs, and piping and fuel dispensers locations to assess for
petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil and ground water beneath the site.Four of the borings will be
advanced to a depth of 15 feet bsg, one boring will be advanced to 25 feet bsg and one boring will
be advanced to ground water; the proposed probe boring locations and depths may be modified due
to field observations. As each boring is advanced, soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals
beginning at 5 feet bsg and extending to the total depth of the probe boring.
The proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2. Field procedures for advancement
of probe borings and collection of soil and grab ground water samples are presented in Sections 4.1
and 4.2.
Selected soil and grab ground water samples from each probe boring will be submitted for laboratory
analysis. The selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health
Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for one or more the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-all) in accordance with EPA Method 8015M.
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl-tert-butyl-ether
(MTBE) by EPA Method 8021.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
