In 1996, Geweke requested to
modify the bioremediation program by adding additional nutrients and hydrogen peroxide; however, the
necessary waste discharge requirements (WDRs) were never completed. Currently, the total petroleum
hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPHg) and benzene groundwater plume covers approximately the same area as
in August 1994.
OMR Review
The groundwater flow direction has been to the southwest, and concentrations of TPHg and BTEX in
monitoring wells have remained relatively constant for the last four quarters of monitoring. Tertiary
butyl alcohol (TBA) was identified in downgradient monitoring well MW-9 at 45 µg/1, and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) was identified in downgradient monitoring well MW-12 at 2.8 gg/i for
the first time.
The QMR included concentration time-series graphs for TPHg and benzene at selected wells. Most
wells showed stable concentrations for the last decade of monitoring; however, monitoring well MW-8,
approximately 100 feet downgradient of the former underground storage tanks (USTs), shows increasing
TPHg concentrations. This increase in groundwater concentration may be the result of increasing water
levels over the last four to five years, hydrating petroleum-impacted soils.
Board staff met with AGE on 6 June 2001 to discuss the QMR, site remediation activities, and future
site work. It was agreed that the in-situ bioremediation program reduced soil contamination, but was
ineffective in reducing groundwater contamination to the point where the site can be considered for
California Environmental Protection Agency
ea Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real. Every Californian needs to take immediate action to reduce energy consumption.
For a list of simple ways you can reduce demand and cut your energy costs, see our Web-site at http://w .swrcb.ca.gov/mgcb5
