4
. 19 July 1995
AGE-NC-95-0109
3 4 MONITORING OF GROUND WATER FOR PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS
As a part of the more frequent monitoring requirement, wells MW-14 and EW-I were sampled on
18 May 1995 On 12 June 1995, quarterly monitoring procedures were performed at the site, witch
also included MW-14 and EW-1 As during past monitoring events, wells MW-1 through MW-5 did
not contain enough water to purge or did not recharge for sampling
3 4 1 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
On 12 June 1995, a Sohnst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in each
monitoring well, prior to purging An attempt was then made to purge each well containing water of
a minimum of three well volumes Except for monitoring wells MW-5 and MW-6, witch were balled
dry after removing approximately 3 gallons and 0 5 gallons of water, respectively, three well volumes
of water were removed
Each well except EW-i,was purged using clean PVC bailers Well EW-1 was purged on using a 4-
inch submersible pump Temperature, pH and conductivity of the purge water were measured at
approximately 1-gallon intervals (10-gallon intervals for EW-1) using an ICM water analyzer
Monitoring well stabilization data and field sheets are included to Appendix B The water was placed
in labeled DOT-approved drums and stored on-site
3 4 2 COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were collected from each well using clean, disposable plastic bailers Immediately
upon retrieval, the samples were transferred into 40-m1 EPA vials preserved with hydrochloric acid
and were subsequently transported to a chilled container to McCampbell Analytical to Pacheco
(MAI) The samples were analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods 8015m,
and 602, respectively Samples from MW-7, MW-8, MW-9, MW-12, MW-13, MW-14 and EW-1
were also analyzed for volatile halocarbons in accordance with EPA method 601 The sample from
MW-14 was also analyzed for ethylene dibromtde (EDB) to accordance with EPA method 601
Samples from MW-8, MW-14 and EW-1 were also collected in preserved plastic bottles and analyzed
for fecal coliform by FGL Environmental in Stockton, California
