■V61 INC.
Prior to implementation of the soil site characterization investigation, a health and safety
program will be designed. A health and safety planll be developed using the previously
obtained soil analytical data and it has been determined that an OSHA.health and safety Level
"D" environment will be present on the project. This health and safety plan is presented in
Appendix III of this workplan. This plan may be modified as additional information is
developed during the investigation.
The soil borings will be drilled using a power auger rig equipped with a minimum four-inch-
diameter auger or a geoprobe unit capable of drillinginto weathered bedrock or a geoprobe
system. The drilling contractor will have, at a minimi im, a California Contractor License Board
C-57 specialty license with a hazardous material removal specialty.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals, or as appropriate, and at lithologic contacts.
Soil samples will be collected using a split-spoon sampler or continuous core system that will
preserve samples. Soil samples designated for possible laboratory analysis will be sealed and
placed in iced storage. A soil sampling protocol is pr sented in Appendix IV.
A photo ionizing organic vapor meter(OVM)will be used during sampling to detect potential
hydrocarbon concentrations in the soil samples and di'll cuttings. Selected soil samples from the
borings will be analyzed, as appropriate, for total pettolcurn hydrocarbons as gasoline and diesel
fuel and/or motor oil using USEPA Test Method 8015(m) and for benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene and xylene (BTEX) using USEPA Test Method 8020. Samples will also be analyzed for
volatile organic compounds using USEPA Test Methad 8010. A select number of samples
which will include the highest concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline or
volatile organic compounds will be analyzed for solo ie or leachable concentrations of lead and
chrome III.
Groundwater grab samples will be collected from the soil borings and/or geoprobe borings if
these borings extend to the water table.
