■ Z1 INC
described in Appendix IV. After each soil boring and or geoprobe boring is completed, an
inspection of the soil boring will be conducted by low ring a clean bailer to the groundwater
i
surface and retrieving a groundwater sample. The water in each soil boring will be examined for
floating petroleum product, sheen or odor. If floating product is detected, the soil boring will not
be sampled.
If no floating product is present, a groundwater sampk will be collected using a clean bailer or
pump. The groundwater sample will be transferred to laboratory-sterilized glass receptacles (40
ml VOAs). Samples will be labeled and placed in ice coolers for transport to a California state-
certified
tate-
certifed analytical laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation. Purged groundwater and
drill cuttings will be stored onsite in 55-gallon drums.
Should soil hydrocarbon contamination be significant in terms of threat to local groundwater,
PHSEHD may require a groundwater site characterization investigation. If required, the
- groundwater phase of the site characterization investigation will initially include approximately
t three groundwater monitoring wells to be installed on the property. Additional wells may be
required to define the lateral and vertical extent and flow gradient of the contaminated
groundwater. Hydropunch and/or temporary groundwater monitoring wells may be utilized to
help establish lateral delineation of the contaminated roundwater without establishing
permanent groundwater monitoring wells. The locati ns of proposed groundwater monitoring
wells will be made on quarterly status reports (QSR' ) that will be submitted at the conclusion of
the soil investigation.
The groundwater monitoring wells will be drilled using a drill rig equipped with a minimum
eight-inch-diameter hollow-stem auger and capable of completing a two-inch-diameter
monitoring well. The monitoring wells will be constiucted using flush jointed,two-inch-
diameter, Schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) casing. No chemical cement, glue or solvent
will be used in the well construction. The base of each well will be fitted with a PVC plug. The
screened portion of the well will consist of factory-p rforated casing with 0.010-inch-wide slots.
08420010.001 S
