%VZ1 INC
-
Task 4: Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessment
A Risk-Based Corrective Action(RBCA)evaluation cf the site will be conducted to determine if
the site presents a threat to human health and/or a risk to the environment. The information
collected in the Tasks I and 2 and the available soil ar d groundwater sample analytical data from .
the tank removal will be used as data input into the modeling process. The RBCA planning
process, as described in the American Society for Tes ing and Materials (ASTM) E-1739
"Standard Guide for Risk-Based Corrective Action Applied to Petroleum Release Sites,"
integrates USEPA risk assessment practices with current or evolving site investigation remedy
selection activities to determine the necessary measures for protection of human health and the
environment. This approach is recognized by many local environmental health agencies
throughout California which oversee the evaluation arid remediation of underground storage, tank
sites. If it is determined that the site poses a threat to uman health and the environment, the
RBCA modeling results will be used to assist in developing target cleanup goals.
Task 5: Remediation Cost Effectiveness and Feasibility Study
A determination of whether soil and/or groundwater remediation at the site will be necessary,
and, if required, what methods and alternatives may b available, will need to be accomplished.
In order to complete this requirement, a remediation cost effectiveness and feasibility study will
be conducted for the site using all information availat le from the Tasks I to 4 efforts. This
evaluation will present the options that are reasonable and prudent for remediation of
hydrocarbon contamination of the soil and/or groundwater at the site and their relative cost
effectiveness. This information will be presented in a series of remediation options that can be
reviewed and evaluated by regulatory agency staff.
08420010.001 12
