Work Zones <br /> At the beginning of each work shift, the SSO shall peiform initial air monitoring with portable <br /> direct-reading instruments to identify the area(s) onsi a where gas and vapor contamination is <br /> present. <br /> Based on these initial air monitoring readings,the SS D shall establish discrete work zones as <br /> follows: <br /> Exclusion Zone or "Hot" Zone <br /> The Exclusion Zone or "Hot" Zone shall be defined follows: <br /> 1. Wherever portable direct-reading air monitoring instruments register anything <br /> above the background readings establi ilied upwind offsite in uncontaminated <br /> areas. <br /> 2. if portable direct-reading air monitoring instruments read background throughout <br /> the site, the exclusion zone shall be defined around the area(s) of known or <br /> suspected chemical contamination or vhere drilling, excavation, soil sampling or <br /> other invasive activity is to be perforn ed. <br /> 08420010.001 APPENDIX IL <br /> 10 <br />
