Failed to determine if waste is a hazardous waste.
-Oily water is found in the yellow mop bin and it is unclear where the oily water is being disposed without
first determining its hazardous properties. Oily water is generated from cleaning the service department
floor-
- It is unclear how unusable non -emptied aerosol cans are being managed or how it is being disposed.
Non -emptied aerosol cans may still have propellant and may still contain hazardous liquids and have a
potential to combust. Previous Service Operation Managers had a container for storage of non -emptied
aerosol cans but current management does not. No disposal records found.
Any person who generates a waste shall determine if the waste is a hazardous waste. Immediately
contact the janitor and find out where this liquid waste is being disposed. Submit a statement and
supporting documentation explaining how this waste was managed.
18. A 55 gallon black drum of oily solids (booms) was observed in the room with the drained used oil
filters with an accumulation start date of July 2010. A small 5 gallon yellow bucket located in the Service
Department adjacent to the Bulk Storage Room wall contains oily solids (booms) had no start date and it
is unknown how long it has been onsite. Facilities who generate 1000 kg or more of hazardous waste
per month and or exceed 6000 kg of waste stored on site at any time may not store waste on site for
longer than 90 days. Immediately contact a licensed hazardous waste hauler to dispose of this waste
under manifest and submit a copy of the manifest to the EHD.
1 A 30 gallon white poly drum was observed in the room with the waste oil and waste antifreeze
tank. It was marked with "Please dispose, Hydraulic Oil, Water Base? Its Green". It did not have any
hazardous waste labeling and it is unclear how long the drum had been stored onsite. All hazardous
waste containers shall be marked with the following information:
1. the words "Hazardous Waste", 2. name and address of generator, 3. hazardous properties
4. physical state, 5. composition (contents), 6. accumulation start date
Immediately label these containers and ensure that all containers are marked with all the required
information.
