. •
Margaret Lagorio [EH] Page 1 of 1
From: Margaret Lagorio [EH]
Sent: Friday, July 24, 2009 11:59 AM
To: 'Brian.Westhoff@stantec.com'
Cc: 'Jim Barton'
Subject: Well destructions for 225 Cherokee, Lodi
Brian,
This is to document the telephone conversation we had this morning. The work plan for well destruction for 225
Cherokee, Lodi, states that MW4, MW7, MW9,VP3, VW1 through VW5 and VW7 through VW11 will be pressure
grouted (describes method required by San Joaquin County)and that MW1 through MW3, MW5, MW6, MW8,
VP2 and VP4 will be overdrilled and the borehole grouted. There is no explanation for the decision on how the
wells will be destroyed.
The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board letter dated May 29, 2009, advised you that our agency
would issue the well destruction permits and to obtain concurrence from our agency on the proposed methods for
well destruction.
San Joaquin County Well Standards require that a well located in an area of contamination be destroyed by
removing all the material in the origianal borehole (overdrill)and fill the hole with appropriate sealing material.
Vapor wells 4, 5 and 9 had significant concentrations of contamination in the soil samples collected when they
were drilled so San Joaquin County requires that these wells be overdrilled and grouted. Vapor probes VP2,
VP3, and VP4 were all constructed with 1/4" tubing so VP3 cannot be pressure grouted and must be overdrilled
as well.
Monitoring wells MW5, MW6 and MW8 can be pressure grouted if you would like to change their proposed
method for destruction from overdrilling to pressure grouting.
Margaret
Margaret Lagorio, REHS
Program Coordinator Unit IV
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
600 E. Main Street
Stockton, CA 95202
Phone:(209)468-3449 Fax: (209)468-3433
E-mail: mlagorio@sjcehd.com
