HEALTH and SAFETY PLAN <br />Page 2 <br />At the job site, clean fill will be used to backfill the empty hole <br />after soil samples have been taken by Condor Earth Technologies Inc. <br />Soil samples will be excavated using backhoe. Samples will be taken <br />two (2) feet to four (4) feet by hand using brass tubes. All of the <br />above procedures will be done according to code. Any part not <br />backfilled shall be barricaded with construction barricades and <br />caution tape will be used. <br />Oil Equipment Service will use equipment for each tank removal. <br />No undersize or bad mechanical equipment will be used. All heavy <br />equipment will be supported properly. Tanks are to be secured at <br />the assigned location after extraction. <br />Oil Equipment Service will provide safety hats, goggles, and clothing <br />to employees at the job site'as per OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.120. <br />Caution will be noted that a heat stress situation may develop when <br />impermeable protective clothing is worn. <br />Oil Equipment Service will hold shop meetings before start of tank <br />removals to discuss safety procedures. The "buddy system" will be <br />discussed and the course of action to be taken should an injury <br />occur to an employee. Some of the many rules to be discussed to <br />help prevent injury or accident are: 1) avoid standing on top of <br />tank - - surface maybe slippery or rusty, 2) check for falling <br />objects, slipping, and tripping hazards, 3) visqueen sheeting will be <br />used if necessary around excavated soil, 4) where necessary, the site <br />will be secured with construction barricades and warning signs posted <br />to prevent the exposure of unauthorized, unprotected people to site <br />hazards, 5) limit exposure time to noisy equipment, 6) keep a safe <br />distance from the excavation and heavy equipment, 7) stay up -wind <br />from the tank and/or excavation to avoid unnecessary exposure when- <br />ever possible, 8) limit exposure by minimizing the exposure time and <br />maximizing the distance to the source of vapor release, 9) avoid the <br />area or take special caution when ventilating the tank with water, <br />dry ice or air, 10) do not enter the excavation without first <br />monitoring the air. <br />Oil Equipment Service shall provide San Joaquin Public Health <br />Service a map of the nearest hospital and route to be taken should <br />an injury occur. A copy of the map will also be on the job site. <br />
