144
TRC MEETING .7. 29 January 1997
900 SOUTH CHEROMEE LANE,LODI
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
REMEDIATION SUMMARY
Based on soil borings and sample analyses, consultants estimated that 17,300 gallons of gasoline were
present in soil at the site prior to vapor extraction. The soil contamination was located from the surface
down to approximately 70 feet bsg.
Approximately 2650 cubic yards of soil were excavated, containing an estimated 2122 lbs(345 gallons)
of gasoline and 14,000 lbs(2,050 gallons)of diesel. Approximately 194 gallons of free product was
removed between 1989 and 1991. Between July 1991 and February 1996,the vapor extraction system
removed approximately 122,700 pounds(19,885 gallons) of petroleum hydrocarbons.
The highest removal rates from the vapor extraction system occurred in 1993, when 372.55 lbs/day were
removed and 4,657 lbs(763 gallons)were removed in a 15 day period. In February 1996, at the time the
VES was shirt down, the removal rate was 8.88 lbs/day with a mass removal of 7 lbs(1 gallon) over a 14
day period. (This data is from a table in the closure report, which does not specify how long the system
was running during the 14 day period.)
Consultants estimate that approximately 2000 gallons of TPHg and 2.7 gallons of benzene remain in soil
underlying the site.
MEETING SUMMARY
Linda Turkatte, San Joaquin County staff assigned to this site, brought forward the request for no further
action at this site. Ultramar declined to attend the TRC meeting, ostensibly because, at the last TRC
meeting attended by Ultramar staff, TRC committee members asked Ultramar and their consultants
questions which they were unable to answer.
Ms. Turkatte stated that Ultramar refused to conduct regular analyses for diesel in ground water. They
sampled only MW 17 between June 1995 and June 1996 and MW-27 between June 1994 and September
1996. In June 1995,diesel was detected in MW-17 at up to 180,000 ppb and in June 1996 diesel was
detected at 6600 ppb. In March 1995, diesel was detected in MW-27 at up to 46,000 ppb and in
September 1996, it was detected at 780 ppb.
Ms. Turkatte also stated that because of the complex subsurface geology, she had requested continuous
logging of several borings. Ultramar refused, however, they did concede to stagger the level of soil
sample collection so that all samples were not logged in the same 5 foot intervals.
During the TRC meeting,we also discussed the following:
1. Analyses for MTBE have not been conducted.
2. The diesel contamination in ground water has not been defined.
3. Several waste oil tanks were removed from the site and neither the County nor the Regional Board
files contain information on their removal.
