.
At
jag
L , 2 CONCLUSIONS ANIS RE,COMMENDATIONS
Based on the scope of work performed during this investigation the following conclusions
were developed:
1. An undetermined amount of waste oil has been allowed to periodically overflow from
the facility's former 200 gallon underground tank. The tank was excavated and
removed in November 1988. The tank was intact and showed only minor signs of
- deterioration. Although the age of the tank is unknown, it is believed to have been
installed before 1970.
2. The downward leaching of the waste oil spilled from the tank had reached the water
table and had contaminated the groundwater.
3. The source of the contamination has been eliminated and the majority of the
contaminated soils removed.
4. Although the areal extent of the groundwater contamination has not been completely
defined, the levels of puigeable halocarbon compounds present in the groundwater .
are well below action levels. The level of groundwater contamination therefore
represents no immediate threat to public health and welfare, and thus require no
4 further remediation.
5. Soil samples collected from beneath the base of the in-ground gasoline tank show no
signs of gasoline, EDB or TEL contamination.
Murray & Associates recommends a remedial action program that will include the
monitoring of the levels of groundwater contamination at the site, the removal of the
remaining soil contamination, and the in-place abandonment of the 500 gallon leaded
gasoline tank. Specifically this program should include_
,; 4
