JIM. TMURPE. UIL INU Croy aca sorra
and elevated detection levels due to heavy late eluting matrix in-
terference. No other samples were taken at that time. Spoil was
piled to the north of the excavation and remains there at the time
of this writing. A cyclone fence was placed around the excavation
and it remains in place as well .
6 . Remediation Steps: Mr. Largin has retained Wm. Hunter and Associ-
ates and Jim Thorpe Oil Co. , Inc. to undertake the next phase of
this cleanup project. After consultation with Wm. Hunter and Jim
Thorpe Oil Co. , Inc. , Mr. Largin has decided to remove as much of
the contamination remaining beneath the tank pits as possible by
over-excavation. The proposed excavation will start at the west-
ern end of the original excavations to a depth of approximately
201 , 41 north of the north boundaries and extend southerly to a
point approximately 41 past the south boundaries distance of ap-
proximately 201 . Then easterly a distance of approximately 70' or
5' past the and of the original excavation. The resulting excava-
tion will be 201 wide, 70' long and 20 feet deep (see attached
drawings) . Adjustments can be made if necessary. The total amount
of additional soil to be removed will be approximately 250 cubic
yards for a total of approximately 400 cubic yards including pre-
viously excavated soil . Every effort will be made to separate
contaminated Boil from the clean. Clean soil will be stored on-
site for use in backfill operation. Obviously contaminated spoil,
will be placed on plastic sheeting and covered with same if neces-
sary. when actual volume and contamination levels are ascer-
tained, determinations for the disposition of the spoil will be
made.
7 . Soil Samplings Soil sampling will be accomplished by retrieving
samples from the appropriate areas with the excavator bucket .
Samples will be taken from the bucket by Wm. Hunter & Associates
representative on-site. All sampling and analyses will follow
LUFT guidelines . Samples will be transported by Wm. Hunter & As-
sociates directly to Fruit Growers Laboratories, located in Stock-
ton, CA under chain of custody. Soil Sample analyses results
sheets will be mailed directly to SJPHS/BHD from FGL. Samples
will be tested for TPR-G, and BT9&X. We propose to take 8 side-
wall and 3 bottom samples from the excavation. Samples will be
taken equidistant around the perimeter and along the length of the
bottom of the excavation [see attached drawing3 . Locations of the
samples may change at -the direction of SJPHS/EHD representative
on-site. We propose 4 samples (8 discrete to form the 4 compos-
ites) from the spoil pile at the direction of the SJPHS/EHD repre-
sentative. The total number of samples may be altered if
conditions or volumes warrant a change.
2
