10 June 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0312
Page 2 of 11
• Drilling,soil sampling, installation and survey.of three shallow SVE wells;
• Laboratory analysis of soil samples;
• High vacuum SVE pilot test;
• Evaluation of the pilot studies with preparation of a report of findings;
The tasks for thero osed scope of work are discussed:below..
P P P
2.1. , PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site"permits will be obtained from the EHD(i.e. drilling/well installation permits).In
addition,an update to the health and safety plan presently on-file will be prepared in accordance with
Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities(National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency,1985).Prior to mobilization,all underground trenching areas will
be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained-through Underground Service Alert.
2.2. SVE WELL SOIL BORING AND SOIL SAMPLE'COLLECTION
A total of three shallow soil borings (VW1; VW2 and VW3) will be advanced ori-site for the
purposes of soil sample collection and installation of SVE wells for the SVE test.The targeted depth
of proposed borings are approximately 30 feet below surface grade(bsg)which corresponds to the
depth of the shallow plume vertical migration near the source area(Figures 3 and 4).Procedures for
advancement of soil borings and soil sampling are presented in Section 3:1.
I
2.3. SVE WELL INSTALLATION
Based data from the February 2008 ground water monitoring event; depth to ground water was
measured at an average 61 feet bsg. Currently, monitoring well MW-5 is screened through the
vadose zone and is located in or near the suspected core area of the soil hydrocarbon-impacted area
at the site(Figures 3 and 4).The adsorbed hydrocarbon-impacted plumes occur at differing depths
and spatial orientation and will be treated as separate contamination events.AGE is proposing to
install"a set of high-vacuum.SVE wells for performance of a SVE Test that concentrates is
examination to the central plume on site. +
The screened interval for the current ground water monitoring well network was not designed to
Advanced GeoEnvironmentat,Inc.
i
