s
10 June 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0312
butyl ether (ETBE),tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), 1;2-dibromoethane (EDB), and
1,2-dichloroethane(1,2-DCA)in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
2.5. OZONE INJECTION BENCH-SCALE TEST
The purpose of the Ozone. BST is to: 1) identify and .quantify any detrimental, secondary
consequences generated from in-situ ozone injection; specifically the.production of hexavalent
chromium(Cr+6)or other degradation of water quality parameters and 2)evaluate the effectiveness
of ozone injection to effectively degrade petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater. The Ozone BST
will include the collection and analysis of soil and ground water samples for assessing baseline
conditions and for conducting the Ozone BST.
2.5.1. Ozone BST Collection of Soil and Ground Water Samples
Boring B30 is proposed to be.advanced to a depth of 100 feet-bsg; this depth corresponds to the
3 ground water plume's anticipated vertical migration (Figure 3) and intersects, the saturated
zone(extending between 60 and 100 bsg'). Procedures for advancement of soil borings and soil
sampling are presented in Section 3.1.The proposed soil boring will be advanced utilizing a truck-
mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers.
Soil samples selected for analysis will be collected from the saturated zone from approximately 60
to 100 feet bsg.It is proposed that up to four soils sample sets will be selected for analysis. The soil
samples from each interval will be composited and utilized for individual Baseline Analyses(Section
3.5.1)and the remaining set of samples will be used for the Ozone BST(Section 3.5.2).
Ground water samples representative of the dissolved hydrocarbon, plume will be collected in
accordance with sampling procedures described in previous quarterly monitoring reports(Appendix
B) and that complies with CVRWQCB guidelines for sampling. It is ;proposed that ground water
samples will be collected from monitoring well MW-5 and monitoring well MW-8 which are located
in the core of the dissolvedhydrocarbon plume.Adequate ground water samples will be collected
for analysis and general mineral parameters,as well as a volume of water to be utilized during the
proposed Ozone BST. Field procedures for the advancement of the boring.and collection of soil
samples are presented in Sections 3.1.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
