r • •
Mr. Marshall Cloud
January 16, 2003
Page 2
Specific Comments:
1. Page 5, section 2.2.3, last sentence: Please elaborate on the "varied" disposal
locations.
2. Page 8, section 3.1.7, fourth sentence: Please provide some rationale on why
water distribution was shown to be more effective in the north/south direction
rather than in the east/west direction.
3. Page13, section 3.3.1.1, last sentence: Please be more specific in describing
"continual coordination" (i.e. once a day, once every eight hours, etc.).
4. Page 15, section 4.1.2, third sentence: This sentence states "plot flow meters"
were used whereas the first sentence of the section states "totalizers at each plot
were used to track flow rates." Please correct this inconsistency and be consistent
in the future in identifying the various meters.
5. Page 16,section 4.1.3, last sentence: If the totalizers were removed in June of
2002, and there is difficulty in obtaining reliable groundwater treatment plant#2
and well flow rates, then how has the volume of treated groundwater discharged
onto the overland flow plots been measured from June of 2002 until
September 13th? Please state the explanation in this section. When the report
states "estimated" volumes of treated groundwater discharged onto the overland
flow plots, what is the percentage of uncertainty in this number? Please provide
this % uncertainty under Table 4-1.
6. Page 16, section 4.2.1, last sentence: This sentence states "instantaneous flow as
measured from flow meters could not accurately record the average flow rate." Are
the flow meters referenced in the sentence "totalizers" as previously stated, or
another type of meter setup for measuring instantaneous flow? Please refer to
specific comment #4.
7. Pagel 7, section 4.3.4, last sentence: Please provide the rationale on why water
distribution changed to the north/south direction. Refer to specific comment #2.
8. Page 17, section 4.4.1, last sentence: The section states measuring groundwater
levels was to study the effect of overland flow discharge on the groundwater table.
More specifically as stated in section 3.4.1, groundwater measurements were
taken to quantify hydraulic mounding that indicated the creation of hydraulic barrier
to northerly plume migration. Please include this rationale in section 4.4.1.
