Field procedures
for collection of soil samples are presented in Section 5.2.
The samples collected from the excavation area will be analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 modified; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and fuel additives including
mehtyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), di-isopropyl ether
(DIPE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), 1,2-dibromoethane
(EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
4.0. REPORT PREPARATION
Following completion of the overexcavation, a report will be prepared presenting the findings. In
addition, quarterly ground water monitoring reports will include a description of work performed and
the results of the groundwater sampling and analysis and include a section detailing operation and
performance of the ground water extraction system. Conclusions and recommendations will also be
included in the reports preparing the site for closure. The report will be in a format acceptable to
CVRWQCB guidelines, and will be reviewed and signed by a California Registered Geologist.
5.0. SOIL EXCAVATION
Soil will be excavated using a backhoe or an excavator.Excavated soil will be field-screened for the
presence of volatile organic compounds using an organic vapor meter (OVM). Based on OVM
readings and field observations, excavated soil will be segregated into `clean' soil and petroleum
hydrocarbon-impacted soil stockpiles; excavated soils with OVM readings above background air
Advanced GeoEnvironmental.Inc.
