EXPLORATORY SOIL BORINGS -
' On 19 November 1996 AGE advanced four soil probe borings (B-5 through B-8) to further assess
hydrocarbon-impacted soil and ground water as directed by the PHS-EHD Advancement'of all
probe borings was accomplished utilizing AGE's van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 The Geoprobe was
equipped with i 25-inch diameter probe rods with an attached 2 15-inch diameter soil sampler Soil
probe boring locations are depicted on Figure 2 Soil samples were collected from all four probe
i borings and grab ground water samples were retrieved from two probe borings (B-6 and B-8) Probe
borings B-6 and B-8 were advanced to 30 feet bsg, B-5 was advanced to 25 feet bsg, and B-7 was
advanced to 35 feet bsg
t
71 SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
Discrete soil samples were collected at five-foot intervals, beginning at 10 feet bsg in B-5 and B-6,
at 5 feet in B-7, and at 15 feet bsg in B-8 The soil samples were retrieved utilizing a Geoprobe soil
sampling assembly loaded with pre-cleaned 1125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves Soil samples were
preserved by covering the ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping and sealing
Ewith tape Upon preservation, each sample sleeve was labeled
The soil samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form, ,stored in a chilled container and
transported to MAI Selected soil samples were' analyzed in accordance with EPA method
5030/8015m for TPH-g and TPH-d, in accordance with EPA method 8020 for BTE&X and methyl
tert-butyl ether (MTBE), and in accordance with EPA Method 418 1 for TRPH
4
72 BORE-HOLE LOGGING
During probe boring activities, sample duplicates were monitored for the presence of organic vapor
using an organic vapor meter (OVM) equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo
Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) and described on boring logs using the
Unified Soil CIassification System (USCS) Boring logs are summarized in Appendix B
t
73 GROUND WATER SAMPLING
I
Grab water samples'
were collected from probe borings B-6 and B-8 using a Geoprobe water
Advanced GeoEmironmental,Inc
